Project of the month: Donut Links Necklace

printable version

Materials:

  • 12 - 18 x donut beads (12 - 20mm)
  • 2 ft x chain links (to make a 34" necklace)
  • 30 - 36 jump rings (8mm or larger to fit around the edge of donut beads loosely)
  • 3 ft x 24 gauge wire (if the donut beads are too thick for jump ring to fit)
  • 1 set of clasp
  • Jump rings to connect the clasp

Tools:

Chain nose pliers, round nose pliers, and wire cutter

Estimated cost: $25.50 for our sample (jade and jasper donut beads, plated chain, jump rings and lobster clasp)

Estimated time: 0.5  - 1 hour

Step 1.

Use 5 - 6 donut beads for the front center, where beads are closer to each other. Use jump rings to connect the beads. If the beads are too thick for the jump rings, see Step 5.

Step 2.

Cut chain in various length, connect the donut beads with sections of chain further up the neck line. Plan on having longer section of the chain toward the back.

Step 3.

Either symmetrical or non-symmetrical design works fine for this necklace.

Step 4.

Attach the last sections of chain with clasp via jump rings.

Step 5.

Cut a 3/4" length of wire, make a simple loop on one end - this will be a "eye pin". Slide the eye pin through the donut bead from center out. Make another loop on the other end (outside of the donut bead). Open the outside loop to connect to another donut bead or a section of the chain.
