Project of the month: Festive Bracelet

printable version

Materials for making 6.5-7.5” bracelet:

  • 44 - 52 fire polished 6mm round beads in color A (red below)
  • 11 - 13 fire polished 6mm round beads in color B (green below)
  • 44 - 52 size 11 seed beads in complementary color
  • 2 x 1.5 ft Power Pro® elastic cord (0.5 mm)

Tools:

scissors & G-S Hypo cement

Estimated cost: $12 - $17

Estimated time: 30 - 45 minutes

Step 1.

Secure both elastic cords together with Bead Stopper® or tape. This will keep the cords in place while weaving beads. Start by stringing one color A (red) fire polished 6mm beads into each cord.

Step 2.

String one color B (green) fire polished 6mm bead through one cord. Then string the other cord through the same bead from the opposite direction (crisscross).

Step 3.

Separate the 2 cords. String one color A (red) fire polished 6mm beads plus 2 seed beads into each cord.

Step 4.

Repeat Step 1. (starting from the beads) through Step 3. To make a 6.5” bracelet, you will have the pattern repeat for 11 times. 12 times for 7” bracelet, and 13 times for 7.5” bracelet.

Step 5.

When you reach the desired length, bring together the bracelet by tying the beginning and the end together for each cord. You will create knots in 2 sides of the bracelet. Tie a square knot 2 times for each place. Pull tight and dap some Hypo cement.

 Step 6.

Cut the tails off after the cement dries in couple of minutes.

Note: Try different size of beads to create a chunkier or slimmer bracelet. You may need to adjust seed bead numbers to accommodate the look.
